Woah only 4 choices left, and you thought I was stroking the egos of my friends? Nope, truth is we got it good here and sometimes it's just a matter of realizing it. As the cookie crumbles/as the snow falls.

7) Julie Driscoll, Brian Auger and the Trinity - Open (this is an '04 re-issue but they've re-released more in '05 of both the Julie and the Brian so I figure those must be equally good. If pressed, I can choose those even though I haven't heard them.) ...This album got me through some long walks through some cold times on the way to work at the station last year. You'd think trudging through slush and frozen accumulation would be a bad thing but I felt like I was on the top of the world. Poor little ducks under the bridge, though. Don't feed the birds, they may opt not to leave! One day it was minus 30-something and the snow was coming down side-ways in harsh pricks and I gave in and tossed them my banana pancake left over from breakfast and intended for lunch. I certainly don't regret it, poor duckies.

8) Black Lipstick - Sincerely, Black Lipstick

9) Sharon Jones and the Dap Kings

10) Black Mountain - s/t

WILLIAM GUERRERO (WEAPONS..., EXPATRIATES)
currently hosting "Bob Ate My Homework" Mondays 2-4 PM on CKCU FM

A random assortment of coolness out of the ashes of 2005:

Favourite 2005 records from Non-Ottawans (in no order):
The Buff Medways "Medway Wheelers"
Hipbone Slim & the Knee Tremblers "Have Knees, Will Tremble"
Immortal Lee County Killers "These Bones Will Rise to Love You Again"

John Schooley "... and His One-Man Band"

Best records from these parts:

Golden Famile: "Nobody Loves a Growler"
Banditas: S/T
Black Boot Trio: "Eternal Return"
Fiftymen: "Balances and Sums"

Nice to See you Again: Discoveries and Re-discoveries
Deja Voodoo "The Worst Of..."
Forgotten Rebels "This Aint Hollywood"
Fela Ransome Kuti & Africa '70 w/ Ginger Baker
Rush "Permanent Waves" (I'm not kidding: I actually spent a lot of this year in awe of 'Natural Science'. What, exactly, is wrong with me?)

Great Moments in Modesty 2005:
Immortal Lee County Killers/Double Pumpers - July 10 2005
Following a smokin' set by the Double Pumpers, one J. Feck steps up to the mic to introduce the evening's headliners, ILCK, and stops to mention that the 'Killers' new record will soon be available at better record stores in town. To which one D. Martindale, guitar hero and occassional bandana enthusiast of the the aforementioned Double Pumpers quipped "BIRDMAAAAAN!". Our intrepid Master of Ceremonies paused only briefly to reflect on the thunderous nature of the ensuing comment, and, taking the reaction in stride, simply said "Well, yeah."

Stuff to look forward to in 2006:
New music from Yogi's new studio (still in need of a name, as far as I know - help the guy out, would ya?)
Four 'n' Giv'r - debut album? I'm in! Could be released before the end of the year? Maybe!
