The Soundtrack Of Our Lives & Cato Salsa Experience
November 7th, 2002 / Barrymores

There is so much out there in the world of music so it’s pretty damn hard to keep track of everything and who can really, but I do try to absorb as much of the goods as humanly possible. Being pretty much an affliction I even take it way too seriously alot of the time. Lord knows I enjoy a heap o’ Scandinavian Rock including Lundberg’s ex, Union Carbide Productions and I’ve heard The Soundtrack Of Our Lives’ records tons and could probably recite a good portion of their catalog but nothing necessarily steals my soul out of it. There are elements of their recorded body that I even find too grandiose and overwrought, too much throw-back to progressive 70’s rock that I still dislike, (to each his own right?) however knowing full well that I might be missing the point and not allowing myself to properly absorb it in my pursuit that I was just speaking of. That was until they came alive @ Barrymores that snowy Thursday night. The incomparable depth and power of this veteran six piece band lit up the room delivering a truly magical music experience. The effortless genre-bending shines thru in their performance, good solid pop sensibilities with soul, psyche and rock, imaginatively arranged and passionately presented with unmistakable distinction. Pretty near perfect sonic delicacy, and to be sure, a rarity in any region; but something this special doesn’t happen here very often. Know what? Now I get it, in spades….”Soundtrack Of Our Lives” indeed and none too brazen a moniker for an illustrious group that deserves more than just the “hype” it is garnering. Positively grand. - - aardvark
